Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
